We only select the best tencha (raw material) for our Gold Class – the darker the better since it contains more chlorophyll (see Benefits below). Gold Class only uses 1st Flush (1st Harvest) tencha. The 1st Flush is always the best because brand new baby leaves are handpicked and have been on the tea tree for a shorter duration. Gold Class is Organic, Vegan, Kosher Certified, Gluten and GMO Free. Our tea plantations are free of pesticides, herbicides and only natural fertilizers are used. Strict Organic and Kosher regulations are followed. High production standards are practiced for all Midori Spring products. Matcha is one of the greatest Superfoods of all time – rich in antioxidants, close to zero calories, and has the highest rated ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity). Matcha also contains a specific Catechin called Epigallocatechin Gallate (EGCg) up to 137x that of regular steeped tea, and has an abundance of the unique Amino Acid L-Theanine. Matcha is a great energy booster due to the combination of caffeine and other natural properties but it does not give you the jitters compared to coffee or energy drinks because Matcha forms links with a variety of nutrients so that it enters the bloodstream in a time-released manner. Matcha is also nutritiously superior to loose leaf green teas because you are consuming the entire leaf and not just the infusion. Research has found that Matcha contains over 100 times more EGCg than any other tea on the market.

  • Good quality

I've been trying out different brands of Matcha tea, because of the health benefits. The thing I am trying to get used to the strong flavor of all of them. With Midori Spring's Ceremonial Gold Matcha, it tasted similar to others I've tried. I like it but the prep for this "higher quality, ceremonial" type was more work than I wanted to do. It says to put it in some kind of wide cup (which I didn't have) and use a small whisk (didn't have one small enough to fit in my cup) and whip it up. I did the best I could and maybe if I put it in a bowl and whipped it, but I didn't want to dirty another dish. So in the end I just used a spoonful in my cup and it didn't taste different then the food grade Matcha type. I was hoping this would taste a bit better. Now I know... I'm not a Matcha tea expert so this is just my personal opinion and experience. I would say give it a try and decide for yourself.

  • Ceremonial grade matcha tea tastes smooth, helps with many conditions. A real #lifefood.

This is a very nice product, well packaged and has a nice smooth taste - but be aware it tastes like green vegetables instead of tea. I was impressed that the Midori Spring Ceremonial Match Green Tea contains over 137x the EGCG levels that of regular steeped tea. It is no wonder that organic matcha tea helps increase energy levels, reduce stress, improve mental alertness, cleanse the body, support the immune system and helps to reduce inflammation. I love that this brans if gluten free, GMO free and does not contain pesticides, soy or wheat. The tin can with the pop top is very nice, it is food grade and really does hold in the freshness. The lid itself screws on. Once you open it however do store it in the refrigerator to help maintain freshness. This particular tea is ceremonial grade harvested from the first flush then ground by a Mikage Stone Mill to produce the final product. I like that the tea ceremony is on the can plus there are recipes and tips on their website. It is best to use a whisk to blend the Midori Spring Ceremonial Matcha Green Tea powder into the water because otherwise it may still contain some lumps. For those who are like me and like their tea a little on the sweet side adding some honey or another type of sweetener is necessary. The powder is a nice bright green - the greenest I have seen. This is a higher grade of tea than some of the other types of Matcha Tea so keep that in mind when choosing one especially if you only intend to cook with it.

I'll be honest, this is my first Matcha. I had the manufacturer send me brewing instructions to give me a hand making it. It's a bit of a process but that's part of the fun frankly, YouTube can help if you need a hand. I did a little research and found that Matcha was a versatile and broad drink that was worth looking into. Anyway, this rich and green powder produced a cup of rich but not bitter tea. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I drink my black tea with nothing in it, so I didn't add anything to sweeten it. I still detected a little sweetness in there I wasn't expecting, even in the aftertaste. Anyway, I'm no expert on taste, I can just say that it's interesting enough to try it! Don't be put off by the small size of the tin, it will last a long time. It doesn't take a lot of powder to make a Matcha! Pros: * Organic * Great taste * Helpful manufacturer who will give you a hand if this is your first time making Matcha * A versatile drink that can be used in many things. Cons: * None
