Usage

As a dietary supplement, take two (2) soft gels daily preferably with a meal. The average adult should aim to consume about 1g of pure EPA/DHA daily or more for best results. The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends 1 gram per day of EPA+DHA for people with heart disease. Higher doses between 2 to 4 grams per day are used to lower unhealthy triglyceride levels in some people. The Food and Drug Administration in the US have indicated that up to 3000 mg of DHA/EPA per day is generally considered safe for most adults. People with specific health problems and medications should consult with their doctor if they require higher doses, however most experts deem that even a very high use of DHA/EPA will most likely be considered non-problematic. If you are pregnant, nursing, taking any medications, or have any medical condition, consult your doctor before use.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids have been highly renowned for their far-reaching health benefits. Omega-3s have been extensively studies and proven to be an effective in reducing inflammation within the body, which is often at the root of most chronic health problems. Anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids help to support a healthy cardiovascular system, digestive system, vision, joint function, skin and hormones.

An Omega-3 Fatty Acid is also known as an Essential Fatty Acid, or EFA, meaning that they cannot be created by the body and must be consumed through a healthy diet. Omega-3s are essential to our health and growth and can be found in healthy whole foods such as vegetables, nuts and most notably, fish. Sadly, most adults in developed nations are deficient in Omega-3s due to a poor diet. The most important and easily digestible Omega-3 Fatty Acids are contained within fish and are known as EPA and DHA. It is these two types of Omega-3 fatty acids that have the most scientific backing, particularly for their health benefits for joints, the central nervous system, skin care and hormonal balance.

Omega-3 to Omega-6-9 Ratio

The diet of most people living in the western, developed world contains high levels of other types of fatty acids, known as Omega-6s and Omega-9s. Omega-6s are found in nearly all packaged, processed foods due to being the main source of fat in refined oils like corn oil, soybean oil, safflower oil and more. Omega-9s are commonly consumed through olive oil.

The modern diet on the other hand contains quite low amounts of essential Omega 3s, resulting in an imbalance between the types of fatty acids which can be dangerous and lead to disease. While Omega-6s and Omega-9s are not inherently unhealthy or harmful, it’s the ratio between the different kinds of acids that either produces health benefits or can be destructive. Traditionally, our ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids was about 3:1, which was the perfect balance for our bodies. Now the ratio lies closer to 20:1, with much more omega-6s being consumed. At this high a ratio, the omega 6 ends up becoming rather pro-inflammatory, with not enough omega 3 to counter the inflammation. The rates of chronic degenerative conditions with inflammation being the underlying cause are skyrocketing, and this is one of the major reasons why.

In order to counteract this upset balance of good fats in our bodies, it is a good idea to supplement with extra Omega 3 as well as reduce the amount of Omega 6 consumed in the diet. Adding an Omega 3 Fish Oil into your day-to-day routine will not only be convenient and cost-effective, but will also is a necessary step in your step towards a healthier fat ratio.

starsOmega 3 Supreme Strength by Life and Food are great

Posted by Thelma 1206 (Amazon Reviewer) on 30th Apr 2019

The Omega 3 Supreme Strength by Life and Food are more football shaped and about 3/4 the size of the normal Fish Oil supplement. So consequently they are easier to swallow. I have no burps with it. My husband has fewer fish burps than with the regular. I have read that Omega 3 is more concentrated than fish oil caps. In reading some of the other reviews, I noticed they said the pills were hard to swallow. They must really have problems with fish oil. One also said the pills were hard - the review must have been on a different pill.

    Higher HDL

Posted by Phoebes (Amazon Reviewer) on 25th Apr 2019

I get cholesterol tested annually at company health fair (and less often from doctor’s office). My HDL (good cholesterol) has always been high, but this year it had jumped off the chart. I don’t normally make claims based on simple correlation, and still take it with a grain of salt, but my diet and reduced exercise these days should have sent it in the opposite direction. I was so perplexed that after walking through possible contributing factors, none of which applied, they redid the test to confirm. It was later that day, when I reached for my vitamins and fish oil, that a light bulb went off and I researched it...it doesn’t look like there is a scientifically proven, consistent effect on HDL from fish oil (As there is with triglycerides ), but there are some mixed results, so perhaps being predisposed to high HDL makes a difference and YMMV. I had started taking L& F Omega-3 Supreme about 2 months prior to the recent test, and have also been more consistent with vitamins this year. As advertised, I don’t detect any fishiness! Note: my reason for taking it is to hopefully help my brain, short and long term, which is why I didn’t automatically associate it with HDL, as cholesterol was not my concern. There are also some positive signs mentally, but there are soooo many complicating factors there, I can’t just attribute that to the fish oil. But the HDL effect gives me assurance that my research for a quality brand has paid off!

    FTC- not FDA for Supplements!

Posted by C.G. Efthymiou (Amazon Reviewer) on 24th Apr 2019

"The Omega-3 market is very large, no guarantees from the FDA that labeling is accurate…" This may dose at 2 pills, but for 90 days, the formulation and potency are very good. I can tell you, DHA is specific, and EPA undifferentiated. When you see wild differences between the two, beware of inflated EPA numbers. Their source, Alaskan Pollock is very good, and pure. "THIS product IS tested for as best as can be without the FDA by qualified 3rd parties and is not full of TOXINS". A thought: Fish, Krill, e.t. AL, "breathe" water and are a sponge for toxins. If you cannot demonstrate that your source is clean, and tested, then why spend a dollar? Just a thought, anyone reading, wouldn't you be much better off if the FTC, (Federal Trade Commission,) not the FDA was qualifying the labeling of health supplements? Because then labeling would adopt a consumer perspective and desire for accuracy in labeling, where the producers could incur liability for inaccurate claims; think of the "Jelly Fish" product people buy, if the FTC were the arbiter, you would have never known of the lies perpetuated by the seller.. Until then, this is one of a few Omega-3 products that attempt to address the toxin issue properly. As for the FDA: You are on your own, if no arsenic is present, then we do not care. Beware of web-sites attempting to charge a fee to find out the actual potency of any supplement. They are most likely in the employment of the manufacturers. This is not a conspiracy thread, not at all; simply a reminder of the obligations our Government has to supply information on dietary aids is non-existent. Praise any producer who submits their product to 3rd party tests like this one does.

Large dose of a healthy supplement

Posted by Brandon L. on 7th Dec 2015

This product provides a variety of health benefits including making your hair healthier. The pills are large due to its dosage but the soft capsule is still easy to swallow. The pill can be burped up later for a little but of a fishy taste and breadth but that goes away quickly. The bottle has a large pill count so this product with last you for months before you need to buy another bottle. Overall this is a great supplement that has good health benefits.

    Amazing supplements! Highly Recommended!!!

Posted by Brad on 23rd Nov 2015

When it comes to supplements all are not created equally, the Omega-3 Supreme 1400 MG Fish Oil are well above the rest that I have tried. The formulation prevents them from giving you the fish burps. I did not experience any fish taste that is common with other fish oil supplements. These go well beyond other supplements. I highly recommend Life and Food. An amazing Omega-3 brand!

Posted by Samuel Narbuada on 16th Nov 2015

The Omega-3 Supreme has pure concentrated fish oil. After digestion of one pill, I conclude that there was no aftertaste that many brands of Omega-3 supplements suffer.

Great pill shape, no fidhy burps

Posted by Tiffany Taylor on 14th Nov 2015

I got these free to review. I'll be completely honest here and say that I did get a tiny bit of indigestion when I took these. That was probably because I didn't start out more slow, I started off with the 2 pill dose instead of just 1. It didn't last long, maybe 15 minutes. But the pill shape is great, it wasn't super intimidating, it was easy enough to swallow. It didn't taste gross, and the smell of the bottle was like seaweed crisps and made me hungry. I didn't get any gross fish burps and I am REALLY impressed with the quality of ingredients that are in the pills. I'm definitely recommending them.
