Usage

As a dietary supplement, take two (2) soft gels daily preferably with a meal. The average adult should aim to consume about 1g of pure EPA/DHA daily or more for best results. The American Heart Association (AHA) recommends 1 gram per day of EPA+DHA for people with heart disease. Higher doses between 2 to 4 grams per day are used to lower unhealthy triglyceride levels in some people. The Food and Drug Administration in the US have indicated that up to 3000 mg of DHA/EPA per day is generally considered safe for most adults. People with specific health problems and medications should consult with their doctor if they require higher doses, however most experts deem that even a very high use of DHA/EPA will most likely be considered non-problematic. If you are pregnant, nursing, taking any medications, or have any medical condition, consult your doctor before use.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids have been highly renowned for their far-reaching health benefits. Omega-3s have been extensively studies and proven to be an effective in reducing inflammation within the body, which is often at the root of most chronic health problems. Anti-inflammatory omega-3 fatty acids help to support a healthy cardiovascular system, digestive system, vision, joint function, skin and hormones.

An Omega-3 Fatty Acid is also known as an Essential Fatty Acid, or EFA, meaning that they cannot be created by the body and must be consumed through a healthy diet. Omega-3s are essential to our health and growth and can be found in healthy whole foods such as vegetables, nuts and most notably, fish. Sadly, most adults in developed nations are deficient in Omega-3s due to a poor diet. The most important and easily digestible Omega-3 Fatty Acids are contained within fish and are known as EPA and DHA. It is these two types of Omega-3 fatty acids that have the most scientific backing, particularly for their health benefits for joints, the central nervous system, skin care and hormonal balance.

Omega-3 to Omega-6-9 Ratio

The diet of most people living in the western, developed world contains high levels of other types of fatty acids, known as Omega-6s and Omega-9s. Omega-6s are found in nearly all packaged, processed foods due to being the main source of fat in refined oils like corn oil, soybean oil, safflower oil and more. Omega-9s are commonly consumed through olive oil.

The modern diet on the other hand contains quite low amounts of essential Omega 3s, resulting in an imbalance between the types of fatty acids which can be dangerous and lead to disease. While Omega-6s and Omega-9s are not inherently unhealthy or harmful, it’s the ratio between the different kinds of acids that either produces health benefits or can be destructive. Traditionally, our ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fatty acids was about 3:1, which was the perfect balance for our bodies. Now the ratio lies closer to 20:1, with much more omega-6s being consumed. At this high a ratio, the omega 6 ends up becoming rather pro-inflammatory, with not enough omega 3 to counter the inflammation. The rates of chronic degenerative conditions with inflammation being the underlying cause are skyrocketing, and this is one of the major reasons why.

In order to counteract this upset balance of good fats in our bodies, it is a good idea to supplement with extra Omega 3 as well as reduce the amount of Omega 6 consumed in the diet. Adding an Omega 3 Fish Oil into your day-to-day routine will not only be convenient and cost-effective, but will also is a necessary step in your step towards a healthier fat ratio.

    Great for daily health!

Posted by Shannon on 23rd Aug 2015

I have been using these for about a month in addition to my daily green juices and exercise and have been very happy with their effect. I feel like especially the last week I've noticed way less inflammation in my joints after working out, and my thumbs don't have as much arthritis pain. Both my parents have high cholesterol and blood pressure, so I like to combat that as much as possible, which is why I chose Life and Food's omega 3 fish oil supplements. I like knowing that I'm taking care of myself from the inside out, and that by using fish oil, I'm combating a wide range of health issues. The best part is that I didn't notice any fishy taste or aftertaste, and i only need to take one capsule to reap its benefits versus having to take multiple pills like some other brands! I would definitely recommend life and food's omega 3 supplements. I did receive this item for free or at a deep discount in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

    A solid choice if you're looking for 2:1 DHA:EPA

Posted by Gina Pera (Amazon Reviewer) on 28th May 2015

Cold-pressed, from wild-caught Alaskan pollock. Pharmaceutical grade. Those are two important points. Also, no "fishy burps" for us. As for this DHA:EPA ratio, one could scan the data online all night and not make a firm case for it best going in this direction (644 mg DHA: 336 EPA) or the other (EPA: DHA).. Here's an excerpt from one of the more readable reports I found, at Labdoor magazine's article "EPA TO DHA RATIO: A BENEFITS AND RISKS ANALYSIS"; it might help you decide if this ratio is right for you: EPA and DHA have been shown to provide a wide variety of clinical benefits. Choosing a fish oil supplement richer in one of the two primary omega-3 types may help tailor, however little, its medicinal properties to your needs. For example, Mayo Clinic Professor of Medicine Dr. Stephen Kopecky recommends a 3:2 ratio of either EPA to DHA or vice-versa. According to the research reviewed here, DHA outperforms EPA in reducing total triglyceride counts and increasing HDL (good) cholesterol. Alternatively, EPA has a more beneficial effect on lowering overall LDL (bad) cholesterol. In the cognitive domain, DHA appears to offer greater mental benefits. DHA has been suggested to be more effective in improving overall cognition and preventing cognitive decline in healthy older adults. While both forms of omega-3 have beneficial effects on the stress response, DHA seems to quell the neurological response (aggression) while EPA modulates stress-affected immune activity. EPA also seems to have greater anti-depressive effects. https://labdoor.com/article/epa-to-dha-ratio-a-benefits-and-risks-analysis ------ Is fish oil the Magic Elixir of Life? Is it going to cure your child's (or your own) ADHD? Is it going to compensate for a lousy diet? No, but essential fatty acids (EFAs), however you get them, are an important part of a healthy diet. And many Americans don't consume enough EFAs otherwise. It's important to note that fish oil does not fall into the "if a little is good for you, more is better for you" school of thought. You can consume too much fish oil, and suffer adverse health consequences. All things in moderation, including fish oil. We seldom eat Omega 6 oils, and we also regularly consume fish (salmon, sardines, etc.), flaxseed, walnuts, olive oil, and olives. So, we take one of these capsules daily, not two.

    No Fishy Burps!

Posted by AmyEVilleneuve (Amazon Reviewer) on 26th May 2015

I was happy to get to try Omega-3 Supreme 1400mg Fish Oil Concentrate 180ct by Life and Food Review. I have borderline high cholesterol so this is something I need to take daily and it is important to me that I am taking a high quality Omega 3. I like that this is not fishy tasting and burp free, especially because I take mine in the morning and I do not want to have fish burps all day! I like that this helps to lower my high blood pressure as well. The gelatin capsule is large, for some it may be difficult to swallow. I like that it gives me my daily Omega 3's. I love that the bottle contains 180 capsules so I don't have to worry about running out quickly.

    NO FISH BURPS -- YAY!!!!

Posted by Tammy (Amazon Reviewer on 14th May 2015

75% Omega-3s High Absorption No Fish Burps Pharmaceutical grade molecularly distilled healthy heart, brain and joint support 2 softgels supply Pure Fish Oil concentrate -- 1400 mg Total Omega 3 -- 1050 mg Eicpsapentaenoic Acid (EPA) -- 644 mg Docosahexaenoic Acid (DHA) -- 336 mg Other Omega 3's -- 70 mg Ok, I am going to start right off in this review and make it clear that I have no idea what the good percentages are or actually what is even needed or required when it comes to Omega 3's I do know they are an essential much needed nutrient in the body which most people are found to be deficient in. Between joint support and brain support I know I am in dire need of this nutrient - LOL!!! I was sent this supplement to try out by Life & Food and they asked for my honest review in return. One thing I can say -- you take 2 of these tablets a day. They are very easy to take and one thing I noticed the very first time I took this supplement was "no fish burps" I know Gross -- right??? However, that is the main reason my fish oil tablets usually go back in the cupboard without getting taken is because #1 the taste of the tablet usually makes them very difficult to get down #2 You are reminded all day that "YAY!! I took my fish oil supplements today!!! YUCK!!! This product does not do that -- so that is a BIG PLUS for me!!!!! I know I shouldn't get grossed out so easily but I do -- so this feature appeals to me!!! Ingredients consist of: Pure Concentrated Fish Oil (from MSC-certified sustainable USA Wild caught Alaskan Polluck), IP certified natural mixed tocopherols (Natural Vitamin E). Other ingredients: Gelatin, glycerin, food glaze, water, enteric coating. Here are the BIGGIES -- Does NOT contain: GMO's, gluten, egg, additives, fillers, binders, artificial ingredients, soy, milk, peanut, shellfish, stearates, sulfates, dioxides, or Laurates.

I received this product in exchange for my honest review. I have been taking this supplement for awhile now and have actually had amazing results. In terms of Fish Oil supplements, this has to be the best. The packaging is informative and sleek. The actual capsules are small and easy to swallow. They are round. I did't feel greasy or have a nasty taste in my mouth after taking them. I give them 5 stars and I look forward to more products from Life and Food.

Great product with no fishy taste, no fish burps

Posted by Miss Warveen on 12th May 2015

My husband was recommended by his physician to take fish oil as a part of his daily dietary supplement help maintaining his cholesterol levels. So, he and I both have been taking fish oil for sometimes now to better our health. We have tried many different brands, but most of them are so large it’s hard to swallow, fishy smell/taste, or fish burps. The last brand we were taking was Nautre’s Bounty Fish Oil 1200 mg and 360 mg of omega-3. I was taking two (2) softgels of Nature’s Bounty Fish Oil 1200mg with 360mg of omega-3 twice daily, that is the total of four (4) softgels capsules per day. They contain about 720 mg of active EPA (elcosapentaenoic acid)/DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) per serving. These softgels are really not soft, but hard and large making it difficult to swallow. There is also a strong odor even though it is labeled odorless. The capsules are coated not to prevent but "minimize" fish burps. I was given the opportunity to try this Omega-3 Supreme Fish Oil 1400 mg with 75% omega-3. I have been taking the Omega-3 Supreme fish oil for a week now, and so far I love it. I have not had any side effects. There is no fishy taste, no fish burps, or stomach upset. I am taking two (2) softgels of Life & Food Supreme Omega-3 Fish Oil 1400 mg with 75% omega-3 daily. They are almost odorless since the smell is very low unlike Nautre’s Bounty. They contain about 644 mg of active EPA and 336 mg of DHA per serving. The softgels are really soft and small compared to Nature’s Bounty and other brands I’ve taken. Very easy to swallow the soft gelatin (bovine) capsules. I would recommend this product and will continue to take them. Always consult with your doctor first before taking any supplements. I was given Omega-3 Supreme 1400 mg Fish Oil Concentrate comes in a nice size bottle of 180 softgels for my unbiased review.

    This Seems to be Helping

Posted by Stephanie Ferguson (Amazon Reviewer) on 8th May 2015

I was happy to get to try the Omega-3 Supreme Fish Oil 1400 mg. I have joint pain and get inflammation on a regular basis so this is something that I can take regularly. Since I have been taking them as far as I can tell i haven't had as much inflammation nor joint pain as I normally have. So for me this seems to be helping. I love that it has a high quality of Omega-3 and will also comes with other health benefits as well. I take 2 of these every morning and it does not taste fishy nor does it give you those nasty fish burps that you can get from others. The capsule is kinda large, and can be hard to swallow at times. I was also glad that these came in a 180 ct bottle. This way I don't have to worry about having to order as often.
